MUSIC BOOSTER MEETING – 3 September 2009

BUDGET: The budget was presented by Treasurer Yvonne Spencer. The budget was accepted as presented, with the exception of the removal of the $500 allocated for the salary of the assistant band director.

CLASS REPORTS:

Chorus :

Jennifer reported that some students from the men’s chorus had been selected for the honors chorus. The $40 fee for them to participate will be provided by the Boosters.

Dates presented for concerts were:

26 October – Honors chorus;

28 October – fall concert;

2 December – chorus, orchestra winter concert.

The dates for the combined chorus/band trip to Williamsburg are April 9 – 11.

Students are being measured for concert apparel. Women are wearing the traditional black dress. Men are wearing white shirts, black pants, black vests, and black bow ties. New dresses and vests (possibly long ties) will be purchased by DHS and loaned to students. Students may purchase their own apparel, if desired .

Band:

Charlie reported that we have five home games, unless we go into the play-offs.

2 October is 8th grade night.

23 October is Homecoming.

30 October is Grad Night.

Dates of concerts are:

28 October – fall concert;

1 December – orchestra winter concert ;

2 December – band and jazz band winter concert

BANDSTAND REPORT:

Rita Wilkerson and Terry Baughman are the coordinators for this year. They reported that they are still in need of a folding table and three or four coolers. Terry presented some fundraising considerations for the future.

FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES:

Tag Day was presented by Charlie, to be carried-out on November 7,8. Students will go assigned streets on which they will go door-to-door, asking for donations towards the DHS music program. Charlie showed some sample sheets sent-out by Boosters in Middletown, MD, where significant funds have been raised. Charlie requested publicity help. It is yet to be determined how participating students will be able to earn money to put towards the spring trip.

It was determined last year that students would be selling candles again this year. Yvonne Spencer presented the possibility of selling PartyLight candles instead of Yankee Candles. . Sue Donaghue will investigate to determine the company we will be going with.

Other ideas presented by Jennifer Berry were selling Mary Kay and Tupperware. These options will be considered for the spring.

WEBSITE UPDATE:

Barbara Zellers is looking for the FrontPage software. Some areas of the website were determined to be obsolete, and will be eliminated.

OPEN BOARD POSITIONS:

Sue Donaghue volunteered to be fundraising coordinator. Barbara Zellers will continue as the scholarship chair. Publicity chair and community outreach chair positions remain open.
